Am I Really Saved?
The Message of Salvation is an Easy One
Mankind is separated from God.
Only God can fix this problem and promised to do so.
Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the Son of God sent by God to fulfill God's promise of fixing the problem.
Jesus lives in heaven today, preparing for His return, and that between now and then he offers the free gift of salvation by grace, through faith.
"Can Christians lose their salvation?"
View 1 -- Yes, Salvation Can Be Lost.
It can be lost through the loss or abandonment of belief.
It can be lost through behavior that does not honor God.
View 2 -- Salvation Cannot Be Lost, But You May Not Be Saved.
If a person walks away from their salvation, they never had it.
If a person lives dishonorably, it proves they were not saved.
“spurious" faith, they were not saved.
View 3 -- The Truly Elect Are Secure.
“irresistible grace" (the “I" of “TULIP").
If the signs that you are saved do not endure, then you were not one of the elect.
View 4 -- A Person Can Know They Are Saved And Secure.
“once saved, always saved."
How To Build A Doctrine of Uncertainty
It is simple: use passages of Scripture written to Israel.
A person who rightly divides (2 Tim. 2:15) insists that things belonging to Israel should not be allotted to the Body of Christ.
Every passage that implies a loss of salvation is not about salvation but has been misapplied and thus brings confusion.
Example 1: Salvation Can Be Lost.
Hebrews 6:4-6 is very often used to state that a person can lose their salvation.
Each of the items mentioned in the passage are a reference to Israel and not the believer.
A fundamental rule: things that are similar are not the same.
Example 2: You May Not Be Saved.
1 John 2:19 appears to teach that people who turn from their faith were never saved.
Who are these people that were not of us?
Almost all of evangelicalism says that they are people who were once part of the body of Christ“us."
“there will be some who are only in outward appearance united to Christ and His people, and in the matter or the manner of their disagreement with other believers, they will prove otherwise." (https://www.ligonier.org/learn/articles/when-christians-dwell-unity)
The verse clearly has the context of antichrists abandoning Israel.
Example 3: The Truly Elect Are Secure.
Matthew 24:13 is used to teach that the truly saved endure to the end.
“out of bounds" from the body of Christ, referring to those who are enduring the tribulation, which takes place after the dispensation of the grace of God (Eph. 3:2) has ended with the rapture.
How To Build a Doctrine of Certainty
Understand the gift that God offers.
God does not offer potential salvation or provisional salvation but permanent salvation.
Many seem to teach that God gives an opportunity to repent and redo.
What God actually offers is a substitution of your sin for God's righteousness, taken care of by the completed work of Christ.
If God doesn't give eternal life as a gift given in response to our faith, then let's quit teaching He does. But if He does offer eternal life then let's take Him at His word: once we receive the gift, we have eternal life.
Understand the criteria upon which God gives the gift.
The gift is neither given nor retained by our works. In fact, our works are not allowed in the equation (Eph. 2:8-9).
Jesus Christ paid the full price, and God gives the full gift immediately when we place our faith in the work of Jesus.
