The Essential Gospel | What does it really take to be saved?
A worldview that includes man separated from God is essential for salvation.
Mankind was created through Adam and Eve, in God's image, and in fellowship with Him (Genesis 1-2).
Adam and Eve sinned against God and the fellowship with God was broken (Genesis 3).
Entrance into God's presence became entirely impossible by man's efforts, and now God held the total initiative and ability to communicate with man.
Some believe that there has never been a separation.
Some believe that God is within us all.
Some believe that God is within all things.
Some believe that believe that there is no God or that we do not need Him.
A belief that only God could fix the problem of separation.
He is the one who cursed, He is the one that must remove the curse.
Part of the curse WAS the promise of victory over the curse (Genesis 3:15).
Many believe that if we fail to sin then we have overcome the problem.
Others believe that if our good deeds outweigh our bad deeds then we overcome the problem.
Some believe that if we pay enough penance then we will overcome the problem.
All of these focus on our efforts, and not God's. This is not the Christian gospel.
The belief that Jesus of Nazareth is the Promised Savior who Now Has Ability To Save Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime.
Jesus of Nazareth is the historical figure, and His identity includes-
Born of a virgin in Bethlehem
Lived a sinless life
He was crucified, buried, and resurrected (1 Cor. 5:3-4).
What Jesus in His life, death, burial, and resurrection …
Makes Him Lord of all things -- Romans 14:9.
Gives Him the name above all names -- Philippians 2:8-9.
Some believe that others can also save.
Some believe that Jesus is just an example for those who want to be saved.
The belief that Jesus lives in heaven today, preparing for His return, and that between now and then he offers the Free gift of salvation.
The gift is by grace, through faith, and works are not allowed -- Ephesians 2:8-9.
The gift reconciles us to God -- 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.
The gift is received by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.
It doesn't require any kind of prayer, but many say one.
It doesn't require any kind of public testimony, but many give one.
What Now?
If you have recently placed your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, here are my recommendations:
Begin to study God's full revelation, the Bible, learning it chronologically and literally.
Find others who can take the journey with you.
Enjoy the assurance of salvation. What you have received can never be taken away.
Discover the joy of fellowship with people who think like you do. However, be very careful because there are many out there who misunderstand God's Word and will bring you to confusion in Christ rather than freedom in Christ.
