Within the Bible, Satan is mentioned 56 times. The word “devil” is mentioned 61 times. With a few exceptions, this is referencing the adversary. In other places, he is called the serpent. Revelation referred to him as “the dragon”.

Although he is mentioned about as often as Joshua or Solomon, Satan remains a somewhat mysterious figure.

Isaiah 14:12-15 describes this adversary and accuser. This passage gives insight to Satan’s downfall and undoing. Simply, Satan wanted to be God.
This is perhaps a thought within every free willing and thinking creature. There is a desire to be worshiped, possess all power, and have total control. Satan is the embodiment of this.

Job 2:7 → Satan seems to mimic some of God’s power. Was this granted to him when he was initially an angel of the Lord?
Some theorize that Satan was working through the Egyptian magicians to mimic the power of God.

Ezekiel 28:12-17 → Satan’s pride and jealousy of God. He was one of the pinnacles of God’s creation. Yet, he was not thankful unto the Lord.

Satan copies Christ in Revelation.
13:1-4 → The beast is Satan incarnate, imitating the incarnate Christ. The dragon gives power unto the beast.
17:1-5 → The beast is described the same as the beast in chapter 13. Logic would conclude this is the same beast.
17:9-13 → The beast is over these seven and ten kings. The beast is making himself the “king of kings”.
13:11-15 → The second beast from the earth imitates the power of God’s Holy Spirit.
This creates an “unholy trinity” of the dragon, the Antichrist, and the second beast.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 → As we approach the end times, men will grow more wicked. They will imitate the worship of God, but it will be perverted and only be the worship of Satan.
